I cannot express enough, how much great pleasure, to be custodian to these lovely senior dogs.
They possess very different personality. Louis, is far more measured with his attitude to life. He expresses his age appropriate character. He allows Lucia to dominate him especially when it comes to food and attention from me; he express his affection by asking for hugs and rubs in his special moment of tenderness. A very gentleman like behaviour. His walks are his favourite part of the day. When the leash comes off, his child like wonderment overtakes, he runs wildly looking to see people, young and old. He doesn’t care much for other dogs; especially puppies, but loves the company of humans.
Lucia is more assertive and joyous. She loves to control the surrounding, especially the sitting and sleeping arrangement. One could interpret her behaviour as domineering, I just think it’s Dutch courage. When Louis put his foot down, she retreat and behaves accordingly. Lucia has emotionally intelligence, she knows when I’m stressed and will act accordingly to comfort. Walking Lucia is always a struggle after 10 minutes. She instinctively knows the direction to home. But she never strays far, will return if I’m not within vision. She is very timid around other dogs, will not leave my side, when other dogs are around. Lucia is my constant front shadow and Louis my back shadow.
I know my time with them are limited, so I try to give them the best quality life. One can only say, how privilege I feel having them in my life. They rescued me, as oppose to I rescuing them.
Thank you Cocker Spaniel Rescue for allowing me the opportunity to be their custodian. I truly feel privileged
